Apparently, Netflix Subscribers Really Love Rom-Coms

To All The Boys I've Loved before Netflix still

Netflix has made a big push into original content over the past few years. On the movie front, there's been a big push to put out rom-coms, flicks like Set It Up and To All The Boys I've Loved Before. As it turns out, there's a reason Netflix has been giving rom-coms so much love. A slew of Netflix subscribers just can't get enough of romantic comedies on the streaming service.

According to new research, more than 80 million Netflix subscribers watched at least one of its original romantic comedies during Q3 this year. That's a lot of hours of rom-com watching on the streaming service. As part of its earnings report, the company revealed that its push for "Summer of Love" movies was a success for the streaming service.

While Netflix has always had quite a few romantic comedy options, this summer really amped up what was available. Beyond Set It Up and To All The Boys I've Loved Before, Netflix already released The Kissing Booth and Sierra Burgess is a Loser, as well.

If you know anything about Netflix, you should know the streaming service is not keen on sharing ratings, even with the creators of its original products, so it is difficult to tell. After reading the Q3 report, Variety actually used the Instagram popularity of people like Noah Centineo exploding after the Netflix movie To All The Boys I've Loved Before was released.

While that's not the same as actual numbers, the fact that 80 million subscribers have watched a rom-com during Q3 is a huge number. During the third quarter, Netflix added another 7 million subscribers. In total, the subscription streaming service now has 137 million total subscribers. More than 55 million of those subscribers are located in the United States.

This means that roughly 58% of Netflix subscribers watched at least one romantic comedy during Q3 alone. All of this bright rom-com news has directly contributed to Netflix having a bright third quarter. Earnings are up

Because of this, more romantic comedies are on the horizon for the streaming service, and Netflix's Reed Hastings confirmed the news in the new report, noting:

More than 80 million accounts have watched one or more of the Summer of Love films globally and we are already in production for the next set of original rom-coms for our members.

Netflix often waits quite a while before revealing information about its upcoming originals, unless they are high-profile projects like Bright. We do know a sequel to A Christmas Prince called A Christmas Prince: Royal Wedding is on the way later in 2018. The director for Set It Up has already expressed ideas for a sequel, as well. We'll be sure to keep you posted about other Netflix romantic comedies that come along down the pipeline.

There are plenty of other new programs on the horizon for the streaming service. If you'd like to take a look at what movies are coming, we have you covered. For the full Netflix schedule, including TV shows, head here.
