Kevin Costner is working on a new show for ABC! As fans know, the actor is currently starring on Paramount Network’s smash hit series Yellowstone. Even though Costner stars in the lead role of John Dutton, the Oscar winner is still finding time to take on new projects. What is this one about, and how involved in it is he?
The Yellowstone star will write and executive produce the procedural drama ISB. ABC has agreed to a put-pilot commitment, and there is a financial penalty attached, per THR. Hence, ISB is not a completely done deal to make it to air, but the odds aren't bad. Now to a very critical question. Will Costner appear on ISB if it scores a series order?
Kevin Costner is not currently slated to star in ISB. So, it seems he will not be starring in two series at once (for now). For those hoping to see Costner starring in some other shows outside of Yellowstone, this is likely intriguing news.
What is the show about? ISB is the Investigative Services Branch, and the series will subsequently follow the elite special agents’ investigations. According to the plot description, they have to solve the most complicated and egregious crimes committed in the Pacific West’s national parks.
Based on the mention of the landscape, it seems that the national parks could be a character within themselves. The beautiful setting of Yellowstone plays a similarly integral role in the sweeping drama. It is not surprising that Kevin Costner’s new show would feature similar attention to nature.
While Kevin Costner has acknowledged some issues adjusting to television for Yellowstone, he is continuing to stay involved in it outside of the Western. From the sound of things, ISB should not be a threat to Costner’s longevity on Yellowstone, which is a series that I hope lasts a long, long time. Things are looking good for it.
Kevin Costner will team up with former Flash showrunner Aaron Helbing to co-write the script. Helbing will serve as showrunner and is also on board to executive produce. Costner’s Territory Pictures partners Rod Lake, Ivan Cohen, Ken Halsband, and Jon Baird will also serve as executive producers on ISB.
Given the popularity of procedurals, I would not be surprised if ISB gets picked up to series. They have historically performed very well for CBS and NBC. Could ABC be home of the next procedural hit?
Since Kevin Costner’s ABC show is still in the pilot stages, a premiere date is not on the table yet. Costner’s other series, Yellowstone, will return for its third season on Paramount Network. A premiere date is still pending for the Western. In the meantime, this winter’s premieres can keep you occupied.
