Despite critical acclaim and open adoration from a rival streamer, Netflix decided to cancel fan-favorite BoJack Horseman. It is one of many shows that have met a shocking and arguably premature end at the streamer. Now that BoJack Horseman’s sixth and final season is streaming, Netflix has put together a sweet commemorative video for the series.

If you are a BoJack Horseman fan, it is safe to say that this is a Netflix video (which you can find below) you will want to check out. BoJack Horseman's creator, Raphael Bob-Waksberg, explained what viewers have come up to him and said, saying:

People come up to me, and they tell me that it has given them the vocabulary to talk about feelings that they have had. Relationships that they never quite understood. It’s really incredible, and it makes me tremendously proud.

The power of BoJack Horseman is real! The animated series has long been a staple of critics’ best of the year lists and will be missed by many, including its cast. In reflecting on the show, showrunner Raphael Bob-Waksberg also shared some insight into the ensemble’s reaction as BoJack Horseman grew darker. On the cast’s response to the pilot and ensuing season, Bob-Waksberg said:

We, as writers, go to darker places because we can. Because it doesn’t feel too dark because the show is so bright. It’s emotional and vulnerable and sticky and prickly. I don’t think we told the actors that that was the plan. The actors all signed up for the first episode that they read, which is like a pilot episode like ‘yeah, this sounds fun.’ One of my delights in that first season was going to these table reads where things got progressively darker and seeing the actors kind of look at each other like ‘what did we sign up for?’ But they loved it! [laughs] I mean, they were into it. It was fun to surprise them.

Thankfully, it all worked out, and BoJack Horseman became a much-anticipated release during its six seasons. Thus, making news of its cancellation all the more upsetting. As questions began to circulate about why BoJack Horseman would end with Season 6, voice actor Aaron Paul offered an explanation. Paul cited Netflix as making the call to end the series.

BoJack Horseman boss Raphael Bob-Waksberg later sounded off on Netflix’s altered cancellation policy. At the time, Bob-Waksberg lamented Netflix recently seeming to move away from its previous model of waiting for new shows to build an audience. The series’ creator has also commented on the streamer’s practice of skipping the ending credits.

Speaking of end credits, BoJack Horseman has officially concluded as of Season 6. Will Arnett, who voices BoJack, previously opened up about his feelings surrounding saying goodbye to BoJack Horseman. In a sign of how positive his experience was working on the Netflix comedy, he mentioned himself, fellow cast members, and Raphael Bob-Waksberg wanting to collaborate again.

What does Will Arnett have to say about BoJack Horseman in the poignant farewell video? In it, Arnett reflected on people’s initial expectations of the highly-regarded series and that it would another show about showbusiness. As for his favorite part of BoJack’s journey, Arnett had this to say:

My favorite part of BoJack’s journey. My answer, I think, changed every year. But now looking back at all of it, he legitimately was looking for some relief, and I like the idea that he does ultimately end up getting a little bit of peace.

You can watch Will Arnett, Aaron Paul, Alison Brie, Paul F. Tompkins, and more, reflect in the full video below. There are quite a few moving insights that BoJack Horseman’s cast and crew have to share about the show, including its impact on viewers. Check it out here:

Only time will tell if the team that made BoJack Horseman such a hit with so many viewers will ever get to collaborate again. A BoJack revival may not be in the cards, but anything can happen when it comes to Netflix nowadays.

BoJack Horseman is available to stream in entirety on Netflix along, with lots of 2020 content. If you need something to binge or get your mind off of the beloved series’ cancellation, there are always this winter and spring’s premieres.
