Even though pop superstar Britney Spears has been saying for many, many months now that she wants to be done with her father, Jamie Spears, controlling much of the conservatorship she's been under since 2008, fans haven't known the depths of that desire, and what she's been enduring, until just this week. Spears finally spoke out in a powerful statement during yet another conservatorship court hearing, and compared being under the elder Spears control for so long to "sex trafficking." Now, her ex-boyfriend, Justin Timberlake, has shared an impassioned message with fans after hearing what Spears had to say.
Britney Spears has been mum on the details of her conservatorship and how it's made her feel for much of the time she's been living her life under it. But this week, while attempting yet again to be free of the elder Spears' control over pretty much every area of her life, she finally voiced her feelings and let the judge and everyone know exactly what that conservatorship has been like for her. Spears detailed what appear to be some shocking abuses of power, and Justin Timberlake has opened up to fans about his feelings on the matter. In a Twitter post he said:
After what we saw today, we should all be supporting Britney at this time. Regardless of our past, good and bad, and no matter how long ago it was… what’s happening to her is just not right. No woman should ever be restricted from making decisions about her own body. No one should EVER be held against their will… or ever have to ask permission to access everything they’ve worked so hard for. Jess and I send our love, and our absolute support to Britney during this time. We hope the courts, and her family make this right and let her live however she wants to live.
Among many of the surprising reveals made by Britney Spears during her statement to the judge, she said that she has been forced to live with the people who worked with her, including her nurses, security, and a chef, and that she was allowed no privacy for her bedroom and that she was even made to change clothes in front of at least some of that staff.
Spears also said that she's been wanting to get married to her boyfriend, Sam Asghari (whom she's been dating since late 2016), and try having a baby with him, but that she has not been allowed to consider either life choice. She noted that she has an IUD so she can't get pregnant, and none of her "so-called team" will even take her to the doctor so she can have it removed. And, Spears seems to believe that these decisions are being made about her life so that she can keep working, as she also noted how she's been forced to work long hours against her will, with her being threatened with not seeing Asghari or her two sons if she didn't comply.
The singer's fans came for Justin Timberlake very hard earlier in the year, after the documentary Framing Britney Spears debuted, and it focused on the fallout surrounding their breakup. Timberlake used the end of their relationship to craft his hit song and music video, "Cry Me A River," and heavily implied that Spears cheated on him. That led to Spears' being berated over the breakup, while Timberlake was seen as the totally wronged party. He eventually apologized for not standing up for her publicly, and it would seem that this recent statement is to make sure that fans know he's absolutely on Spears' side now.
The hearing on Britney Spears' conservatorship ended without a resolution, because the judge noted that Spears would have to file a formal petition to ask for it to end. There will likely be a lot more coming on her case over the next several months, and it sounds like Justin Timberlake is aligned with many in thinking that finally bringing the conservatorship to an end might be for the best.
