It appears that, even after the passing of their lowest moment, some killers just cannot be stopped. Take, for example, the titular anti-hero of Dexter - not just for the series’ enduring popularity, but for Golden Globe winner Michael C. Hall’s recent decision to return to the biggest, boldest, and bloodiest role of his career.

Indeed, the highly acclaimed show inspired by Jeff Lindsay’s novels, is coming back as a limited series, projected to premiere on Showtime in the fall of 2021. The announcement comes years after the Emmy-winning series that flipped the crime drama on its head (the “protagonist” is a Miami PD blood spatter analyst who secretly lives out his sociopathic tendencies on criminals) ended after eight seasons with one of the most controversial series finales of all time. Well, without giving too much away, it appears that original Dexter showrunner Clyde Phillips realizes why it upset fans and is giving it another go.

Of course, with any show that many of your friends have endlessly nudged you to watch for years, not everybody has taken the opportunity to see the Bay Harbor Butcher in action. If you are one of those late bloomers, there is certainly no better time to binge Dexter on streaming than before it returns later this year. The following is our own quick and convenient guide to how and where you can catch up on the TV’s most likable serial killer.

Will Dexter Be On Netflix?

There was actually a time when Netflix was the go-to spot for fans to rewatch Dexter or for curious onlookers to discover the show for the first time. On December 31, 2020, just a little more than three months after the series’ revival was announced, that era ended.

There is no evidence that Dexter will return to the streaming giant anytime soon and the current option to stream the show on Amazon Prime Video, the upcoming limited series event airing exclusively on Showtime, and how recently it left the platform do not help its chances either. However, Netflix does include a few programs featuring Michael C. Hall in somewhat similar roles, such as a cop in the sci-fi thriller In the Shadow of the Moon, a family man burdened by a local crime in the miniseries Safe, and the colleague of a mentally disturbed woman in Christine - a biopic about 1970s news reporter Christine Chubbuck.
