Pokemon 20th Anniversary 3DS Bundle Revealed

Nintendo has announced that they have a year-long celebration planned for the 20th anniversary of the Pokemon brand. Things will kick off with a series of new products, Pokemon-themed accessories and plenty of new games and toys releasing throughout 2016 for the Nintendo 3DS, mobile devices and the Nintendo Wii U. But they've officially announced a new Pokemon 3DS bundle to start off the celebration.

Comic Book did a quick write-up on the new bundle, which includes Pokemon Red and Pokemon Blue pre-installed, along with cover plates for the Nintendo 3DS that represent both games. You can see what it looks like briefly in the Pokemon 20th anniversary trailer below, which also reveals a ton of the content Nintendo has planned to release and promote throughout 2016 as part of the celebration.

The Nintendo 3DS bundle with the two Pokemon Red and Blue games will release on February 27, at the end of next month. This will happen simultaneously with the re-release of the original Pokemon games for the Gameboy on the Nintendo eShop.

It would be a perfect opportunity for gamers to grab a Nintendo device with two games bundled in. It's a neat way to expand the 3DS library without having to pay an arm and a leg for several games.

The bundle for Nintendo's handheld device isn't the only special promotion they have going on. The promo video above also reveals that Nintendo will have a special Pokemon trading card game expansion featuring the Generations trading card packs. According to the press release, there are 110 cards included in the pack including special Pokemon such as Ninetales-EX, Jolteon-EX, along with Mega Charizard-EX and Mega Blastoise-EX.

The special Generations booster cards will launch along with the new Pokemon: Mythical Collection that Nintendo will release at the end of February and throughout the rest of 2016. New boosters will be added following the release of the Red & Blue Collection. There will be new cards released each month as part of the Pokemon: Mythical Collection, giving trading card enthusiasts an opportunity to flesh out their decks with special 20th anniversary cards.

The goodies don't stop there.

Nintendo also has digitally remastered HD renditions of the first three movies based on Pokemon. This includes Pokemon: The Movie, Pokemon 2000 and Pokemon 3: The Movie. Each of the films will be available on iTunes, Google Play and the Amazon Instant Video service. The press release also indicates that the television show will be made available as part of the new video on demand services, featuring the various iterations of the series over the past 20 years through the aforementioned digital distributors.

The release of the 3DS bundle will be followed by other Pokemon games such as Pokemon Rumble World, Pokemon Super Mystery Dungeon and Pokken Tournament, each of which will be released throughout 2016 for the 3DS and the Wii U. There's also Pokemon GO, which will be exclusively available on mobile devices released sometime later in the year.
