Weekly Recap: Hackers Take Down PSN, Xbox Live And 5 Other Startling Stories

This week was a rampant mess of chaos and chaos control. We saw gaming media attempt an internet-wide censure measure (and it failed, of course) we saw hackers attacking PSN and Xbox Live and Battle.net for no other reason than for spits and giggles, and we saw Nintendo unleash a brand new handheld. Whether or not it'll live up to the legacy of the 3DS and DS before it remains to be seen.

Other news includes Valve getting sued by Australia's consumer commission agency. We have some news about Kinect possibly being sold separate from the Xbox One and Ubisoft decides to drop an unlikely bomb: Assassin's Creed Unity has been delayed by two whole weeks... yep, two whole weeks. There's not much fixing to be done within that time, but more on that and other stories in this August 30th, 2014 edition of the Gaming Blend Weekly Recap.

Hackers Take Down PSN, Xbox Live

Things turn ugly at the start of the week as a group of hackers disabled major gaming online services using DDoS attacks. Call of Duty's pre-orders have skyrocketed by a massive margin of 385% on Amazon UK's charts. A new game that mixes Mega Man with Guacamelee needs a bit of help on Kickstarter. Here's why The Simpsons deserve another great game. CD Projekt RED is still optimizing the resolution for The Witcher 3 so don't get bent out of shape yet. A new kind of product placement promotion is taking Plants vs Zombies by storm. CroTeam makes it known why the Talos Principle isn't coming to the Xbox One. And EA is banning bots and coin sellers in FIFA 15... oh the irony.

Amazon Buys Twitch

Absolutely shocking news hit the fan when it was revealed that Amazon, not Google, bought out Twitch for $970 million. You might be interested in finding out how Activision acquired the services of Kevin Spacey for Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare. Kinect Being Sold Separate From Xbox One

It may or may not happen but it looks like the Kinect could be sold separate from the Xbox One. There are some controversies that have caused both Polygon and Kotaku to revise some of their policies. New DLC is on its way for Mario Kart 8 and it looks pretty rad. If you're a fan of Dragon Age you'll definitely want to check out the news about Dragon Age: Inquisition's multiplayer. A new patch drops for Diablo 3, bringing the game up to version 2.1. Also, EA does right by the gaming community by offering free DLC for EA Sports UFC, for the second time in a row.

EA's DLC Edging On $1 Billion

If you thought EA was all-in on DLC, well that's because they are and they closing in on the $1 billion mark. PS3 gamers will need to upgrade their PS3 in order to play newer updates for GTA V. The Last Ship's Adam Baldwin has shown some support for the IndieGoGo campaign from The Fine Young Capitalists. 20 minutes of gameplay for Hellraid actually shows a very interesting game. New DLC is on the way for a game that hasn't even been released yet, but Destiny has the money train all lined up. Dr. Who skins have invaded Minecraft. The president behind Carbine Studios has stepped down and away from the MMO Wildstar Online. And Moon Hunters has landed on Kickstarter courtesy of Square's Collective platform.

Assassin's Creed Delayed

Ubisoft makes the decision to delay Assassin's Creed Unity ever-so-slightly. Dreamfall: Chapters runs into a bit of a problem with a fan music contest. Heroes & Generals actually has a much larger user base than you might have imagined, try 2.6 million to be exact.
