Weinsteins Announce Releases

Fresh with financial fortitude, the poorly named future film distributing powerhouse Weinstein Co. has started setting release dates for their slate of upcoming films. I just wish their name didn’t make them sound like they should be distributing oil.

Variety has the Weinstein brothers full list of upcoming, Disney influence free movies. It includes among other things Grind House a presumably gritty, gorey horror flick directed in two halves. One half by Quentin Tarantino, and one half by effeminate cowboy hat wearing director Robert Rodriguez. Also in their wheelhouse is another cash cow in the deplorable Scary Movie series, and the second Sin City movie. Still no sign of Inglorious Bastards. Here’s the full list of upcoming Weinstein Co releases:

October 21 Derailed - Clive Owen and Jennifer Aniston in a suspense movie.

November 18 Wolf Creek - A horror movie from Dimension films.

November 18 The Matador - Pierce Brosnan does comedy.

December 2 Transamerica - Dark comedy.

December 16 The Promise - An all Asian epic.

December 25 Ms. Henderson Presents - A follow-up to Dirty Pretty Things.

January 6 The Gathering - Christina Ricci thrills.

January 20 Feast - Project Greenlight’s horror flick.

February Breaking & Entering - Jude Law drama.

March 3 Pulse - Another Japanese horror remake.

March 17 Killshot - An Elmore Leonard adaptation. These things never work out.

April 14 Scary Movie 4 - Four unfunny movies in a row.

Spring 2006 Grind House - Tarantino & Rodriguez tag team extreme horror.

Summer 2006 Sin City 2 - More slavish devotion to the greatness of Frank Miller.

They’re hitting the ground running… to say the least. But it’s not until Grind House and Sin City 2 that I really get interested. At least the Weinsteins aren’t hard up for releases without the loving embrace of Disney. For more on what the heck Weinstein Co. is and why you should care, click HERE for our story last week.
