It seems like there are always at least half a dozen Dwayne Johnson movies in the works at any one time. That's probably because there are. After a busy 2026 movie schedule wraps up for the artist formerly known as The Rock, he's got a quieter 2027 movie schedule, with no movies planned for release at all. That could change, of course. He has a few movies that have been announced, but we don't know exactly where they stand in terms of a production schedule, which we'll get into, of course.
So without further ado, here's what's on tap for Dwayne Johnson over the next few months and years.
Jumanji: Open World (December 25, 2026)
The third (or fourth, depending on how you count the original with Robin Williams) Jumanji movie has been a long time in the making. Like the movies themselves, it's been a wild production ride. The most recent release from the franchise, 2019's Jumanji: The Next Level, feels like a very long time ago. At the time of that film's release, discussion of another installment was already underway. In 2020, the pandemic put a crimp in those plans, and it's taken another six years to finally get what is expected to be the final installment in the franchise, at least for now.
The film, which was finally formally named Jumanji: Open World, is scheduled to hit theaters on Christmas, December 25, 2026. The good news is that even though we still have a few months to wait, pretty much the whole cast from the previous films will be returning for this one.
Fast Forever (March 17, 2028)
Like the next Jumangi release, the next Fast movie has had quite a few starts and stops over the last few years. The eleventh movie in the franchise, now titled Fast Forever, is finally officially coming...we think. For years, it looked like the 2019 spin-off, Fast and Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw, was the last we would see of Dwayne Johnson in the role of Luke Hobbs, considering the actor's previous beef with Vin Diesel behind the scenes, which Diesel cheekily acknowledged by greeting Johnson at the Golden Globes.
However, following his surprise Fast X cameo in the post-credits tag, Johnson confirmed in an X post with an included video he filmed himself from Hawaii that he is returning to the long-running, action-packed franchise. "Put your funderwear on" and prepare to see more of Hobbs in the eleventh Fast and Furious movie. Variety later reported that the movie, which will go back to the franchise’s roots, would hit the big screen at some point in April 2027, but that has been further pushed back to 2028, and is now expected to drop in theaters on March 17, 2028.
Lizard Music (TBA)
Dwayne Johnson and Benny Safdie are already planning to work together again, meaning The Smashing Machine will have a follow-up of sorts. Those expecting another gritty and emotionally grueling drama about a decorated MMA fighter dealing with fame, fortune, and addiction won’t find that here, however, as the two are gearing up for Lizard Music.
In September 2025, Deadline first reported that Safdie and Johnson were teaming up for an upcoming book-to-screen adaptation of David Koplan’s 1976 novel about a young boy who stumbles upon a secret late-night broadcast of lizards playing music. His search for answers will lead him to an eccentric character called Chicken Man, who’ll be played by Johnson.
In July 2026, Deadline reported Johnson would be joined by Regina Hall in the cast of Lizard Music along with Theo Leber, Alicia Silverstone and Tim Heidecker. That's a pretty eccentric cast for what sounds like a pretty eccentric movie.
Breakthrough (TBA)
Dwayne Johnson has already lined up his next, potentially great A24 movie. It is a psychological thriller called Breakthrough, for which he is set to play a manipulative motivational guru who targets an impressionable young man in early 2000s Southern California, according to Deadline.
The Rock is playing a rare supporting role in the film, which comes from up-and-coming writer Zeke Goodman, who is also an actor known for modern series adaptations of classic '90s teen movies I Know What You Did Last Summer and Cruel Intentions. As of July 2026, news has been quiet since this was announced in 2025, so like others, we're keeping our ear out for anything new.
Free Byrd
In July 2026, The Hollywood Reporter revealed Free Byrd where Johnson will portray a Las Vegas motorcycle stuntman who is diagnosed with dementia. It will be writtern and directed by Train Dreams director Greg Kwedar. It's yet another movie where Johnson is stepping out of his comfort zone of big budget action movies to do something a little more intense (and dare we say Oscar-baity?) Not much else is known about this one as of July 2026
Dwayne Johnson has another collaboration with Emily Blunt in the works that will also mark his first collaboration with one of Hollywood's most esteemed director-actor duos, Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio. The project, which 20th Century Studios will distribute, is a currently untitled crime drama based on a true story that occurred in Hawaii.
According to Deadline, Johnson and Blunt brought the idea to Scorsese and DiCaprio – all of whom will also produce the film. Nick Bilton, producer of true crime documentaries such as the Elizabeth Holmes-focused The Inventor: Out for Blood in Silicon Valley, has been picked as the writer. Johnson called the development of this film "the most creatively inspiring time" of his career in a post on X.
We're really hoping this comes true, but as of July 2026, there has been little news since this picture was announced in March 2025 and Scorsese tends to have a lot of films announced that don't end up happening.
Untitled Martin Scorsese Hawaii Crime Drama (TBD)
Monster Jam (TBA)
In addition to his live-action remake of Moana, Dwayne Johnson has another upcoming Disney movie in the works that seems perfectly on brand for the action movie star. He announced at 2024's D23 Expo that he is developing a movie based on Monster Jam. Monster Jam is a live event showcasing souped-up trucks, bearing fun, distinct themes, that are constantly racing against each other as they perform daring flips and tricks.
As of now, there has been no movement on this film since it was first announced about two years ago, so this may not be moving forward.
Red Notice 2 (TBA)
The record-breaking success of 2021's Netflix original movie Red Notice is not too surprising when you consider the star power behind it: Deadpool's Ryan Reynolds, DCEU movies star Gal Gadot, and Dwayne Johnson. It was also no surprise when the platform announced it was planning a sequel or two to Rawson Marshall Thurber's action-comedy back in 2022.
In case there was any uncertainty regarding the fate of Red Notice 2, in 2023, Gadot claimed to Collider that the sequel is still very much in active development, with all three lead Red Notice cast members eager to return. As of July 2026, we have not received any further updates, and there is no word on when the film will hit theaters or become available with a Netflix subscription. There has been almost no new news in quite a while. We're sure Netflix wants to run this one back, but scheduling between Johnson and Reynolds may doom this franchise.
Though some of these upcoming projects are big unknowns, like The Rock’s status in WWE, the movies at the top of this list will definitely be coming to theaters and streaming services in the very near future.
