Even without looking at all the upcoming Dwayne Johnson movies on schedule, it is clear the entertainer, otherwise known as "The Rock," has come a long way as an actor. The WWE star, who headlined some of the biggest events of all time, made his acting debut portraying his father, Rocky Johnson, on an episode of That '70s Show before originating the role of the Scorpion King in his first movie, The Mummy Returns.

With the new sports biopic, The Smashing Machine, and one of the most anticipated Disney live-action remakes in years, in Moana on the way, it’s safe to say that the “Final Boss” of WWE is here to stay on the big screen. Here’s a breakdown of everything The Rock has on the 2025 movie schedule, the 2026 movie schedule, and beyond.

The Smashing Machine (October 3, 2025)

Though general audiences haven’t yet been afforded the opportunity to see Dwayne Johnson in perhaps his most dramatic role yet, critics have loved The Smashing Machine, specifically The Rock’s portrayal of Mark Kerr. The upcoming A24 movie and solo directorial debut of Benny Safdie — whose brother, Josh, has his own A24 sports biopic in the works called Marty Supreme — will chronicle the career of the MMA legend and his struggles with fame, addiction, and broken relationships.

The Smashing Machine, which will land on the big screen on October 3, 2025, could potentially take Johnson to the next level of the acting world, much like his great heel turn in 1997 helped The Rock become the most electrifying name in sports entertainment.

Moana (July 10, 2026)

Don’t worry, Dwayne Johnson isn’t turning his back on family-friendly entertainment just yet, as he’s producing and starring in the upcoming Moana live-action remake. Like the 2016 animated original, the movie will follow a young Polynesian princess seeking to absolve her island of a terrible curse as she teams up with a demigod for some much-needed help.

The actor is also reprising the role of Maui, which is a relief because we cannot imagine him allowing anyone else to play a role as personal to him as this. However, while Auliʻi Cravalho is executive producing the live-action Moana, 17-year-old Australian actor Catherine Laga’aia is inheriting the title role. It’s going to be wild to see The Rock singing, dancing, and turning into all kinds of animals when Moana debuts on July 10, 2026.

Jumanji 3 (December 11, 2026)

Years after Robin Williams, Kirsten Dunst, and others played a mystical board game in Joe Johnston's adaptation of Chris Van Allsburg's children's book, Dwayne Johnson and others revived the property in a whole new way in 2017 with director Jake Kasdan's Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle. Two years later, The Rock returned as Dr. Smolder Bravestone in Jumanji: The Next Level, and it looks like we have not seen the last of him and his fellow video game avatars.

In October 2024, Sony announced that a third Jumanji movie (fourth if you count the classic ‘90s family movie) is set to release in December 2026. This follows previous talk from the likes of Jumanji franchise star Kevin Hart, telling Variety that the sequel was in the works on the Oscars red carpet in 2023. However, there hasn’t been any word on production, the cast, or other aspects of the movie since then.

Fast and Furious 11 (April 2027)

For years, it looked like the 2019 spin-off, Fast and Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw was the last we would see of Dwayne Johnson in the role of Luke Hobbs, considering the actor's previous beef with Vin Diesel behind the scenes, which Diesel cheekily acknowledged by greeting Johnson at the Golden Globes. However, it looks like that is all about to change.

Following his surprise Fast X cameo in the post-credits tag, The Rock confirmed in an X post with an included video he filmed himself from Hawaii that he is returning to the long-running, action-packed franchise. "Put your funderwear on" and prepare to see more of Hobbs in the eleventh Fast and Furious movie, Fast and Furious 11 (or Fast X: Part 2 or Fast XI), which is set to come out sometime in 2026. However, Variety later reported that the movie, which will be going back to the franchise’s roots, will hit the big screen at some point in April 2027. And then there’s the business of the long-discussed Hobbs & Shaw 2.

Lizard Music (TBA)

The relationship shared by Dwayne Johnson and Benny Safdie won’t be a one-and-done type of affair, as The Smashing Machine isn’t their only movie in the works. Those expecting another gritty and emotionally-gruelling drama about a decorated fighter dealing with fame, fortune, and addiction won’t find that here, as they’re gearing up for Lizard Music, which sounds like a wild fantasy film.

In September 2025, Deadline reported that Safdie and Johnson were teaming up for an upcoming book-to-screen adaptation of David Koplan’s 1976 novel about a young boy who stumbles upon a secret late-night broadcast of lizards playing music. His search for answers will lead him to an eccentric character called Chicken Man, who’ll be played by Johnson. There’s no word on a release date or other casting information at this time.

Breakthrough (TBA)

Dwayne Johnson has already lined up his next, potentially great A24 movie. It is a psychological thriller called Breakthrough, for which he is set to play a manipulative motivational guru who targets an impressionable young man in early 2000s Southern California, according to Deadline.

The Rock is playing a rare supporting role in the film, which comes from up-and-coming writer Zeke Goodman, who is also an actor known for modern series adaptations of classic '90s teen movies I Know What You Did Last Summer and Cruel Intentions. There’s no director or other stars attached at this time, but we should know more soon.

Untitled Martin Scorsese Hawaii Crime Drama (TBD)

Dwayne Johnson has another collaboration with Emily Blunt in the works that will also mark his first collaboration with one of Hollywood's most esteemed director-actor duos, Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio. The project, which 20th Century Studios will distribute, is a currently untitled crime drama based on a true story that occurred in Hawaii.

According to Deadline, Johnson and Blunt brought the idea to Scorsese and DiCaprio – all of whom will also produce the film. Nick Bilton, producer of true crime documentaries such as the Elizabeth Holmes-focused The Inventor: Out for Blood in Silicon Valley, has been picked as the writer. Johnson called the development of this film "the most creatively inspiring time" of his career in a post on X.

Monster Jam (TBA)

In addition to his live-action remake of Moana, Dwayne Johnson has another upcoming Disney movie in the works that seems perfectly on brand for the action movie star. He announced at 2024's D23 Expo that he is developing a movie based on Monster Jam.

Monster Jam is a live event showcasing souped-up trucks, bearing fun, distinct themes, that are constantly racing against each other as they perform daring flips and tricks. We have no idea how The Rock intends to make a feature film out of that, but he teased at the convention that it is going to be "a heck of a ride." How this movie will adapt one of the premier brands in motorsports is anyone’s guess, but we’re down for that ride.

Red Notice 2 (TBA)

The record-breaking success of 2021's Netflix original movie Red Notice is not too surprising when you consider the star power behind it: Deadpool's Ryan Reynolds, DCEU movies star Gal Gadot, and Dwayne Johnson. It was also no surprise when the platform announced it was planning a sequel or two to Rawson Marshall Thurber's action-comedy back in 2022.

In case there was any uncertainty regarding the fate of Red Notice 2, in 2023, Gadot claimed to Collider that the sequel is still very much in active development, with all three lead Red Notice cast members eager to return. As of September 2025, we have not received any further updates, and there is no word on when the film will hit theaters or become available with a Netflix subscription. We’ll keep trying to figure this one out for now.

Jungle Cruise 2 (TBA)

Dwayne Johnson's strong, long-standing relationship with Disney included a starring role in a movie based on the theme park attraction Jungle Cruise, which reopened in the Magic Kingdom in October 2024 after a two-month refurbishment. Well, it appears that the 2021 adventure film might have only been the beginning of his time as Captain Frank Wolff.

Jungle Cruise 2 was announced to be in development shortly after the release of the first adventure, which also starred Emily Blunt as Lily Houghton, but with few updates since. While on the 2024 Oscars red carpet, The Rock told Variety that the sequel could "possibly" happen "down the line," meaning that nothing is set in stone just yet. There was a report by Coming Soon in August 2025 that Johnson and Blunt were both coming back, but there has been no confirmation at this time.

San Andreas 2 (TBA)

In 2015, Dwayne Johnson teamed up with Carla Gugino to rescue their very resilient onscreen daughter, played by Alexandra Daddario, in the aftermath of a devastating Los Angeles earthquake in San Andreas. After earning $473 million worldwide, a sequel was soon greenlit but the last major update we heard was in late 2021.

At the time, Hiram Garcia told ScreenRant they were “working hard” on cracking a new story (no pun intended). Daddario has also expressed interest in reprising her role, but the possibility of San Andreas 2 happening at all seems to rely on The Rock's availability. Unless we hear otherwise, the seismic activity could be over… for now.

Big Trouble in Little China (TBA)

Back in 2015, Dwayne Johnson confirmed plans to make a new version of Big Trouble in Little China, promised to be a continuation of one of the best John Carpenter movies that won't feature the actor as Kurt Russell's iconic protagonist: unlikely hero, Jack Burton. The actor has been saying all the right things about respecting the source material and honoring the work of both Carpenter and Russell, though neither of those guys are totally cool with the idea of the film being revisited.

The last we heard about the project was in mid-2021 when Hiram Garcia told Collider that, like the San Andreas sequel, they are still trying to figure out the proper way to continue the story of the original cult classic. In 2023, James Wan told EW that he and his frequent collaborator, Patrick Wilson, are interested in making their own BTLC reboot, so we'll just have to see who crosses the finish line first. However, nothing has been said about either since.

The King (TBA)

One of the coolest things about Dwayne Johnson's career is the work that he has done to bring more attention to Samoan culture — honoring his own roots and teaching audiences about people who don't get a lot of focus in pop culture. Titles that stand out in this regard are the aforementioned Moana and 2019's Fast and Furious spin-off, Hobbs & Shaw. However, he may soon have the opportunity to bring a real piece of history to the big screen.

Back in 2018, The Rock made a deal to team up with directors Husain El-Minbawi and Academy Award winner Robert Zemeckis to make The King — a high-profile biopic that will star The Rock as King Kamehameha and follow his mission in the late 18th century to unite the islands of Hawaii. This is the kind of project that one might assume he would work hard to get made, but it is currently unknown when he will have time to do it. It has been nearly a decade but still nothing new has been announced about this one.

Though some of these upcoming projects are big unknowns, like The Rock’s status in WWE, the movies at the top of this list will definitely be coming to theaters and streaming services in the very near future.
