Over the years, the Marvel One-Shot, or standalone short film, has become one of the most anticipated moments of a DVD or Blu-ray release. In years past, these original clips have helped fill in the gaps between storylines, usually tracking Clark Gregg’s Agent Phil Coulson on an adventure as he drove to see Thor’s hammer. Once Coulson got his own weekly television show, the One-Shots were able to expand in scope. Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell) was back in action, or other S.H.I.E.L.D. agents embarked on missions. I’ll include the One-Shots at the bottom of this post.
The next one, from what we had been hearing, will involve Sir Ben Kingsley in a short that reportedly may involve The Mandarin. And not the bogus actor who portrayed the Mandarin in Shane Black’s Iron Man 3, but the real Mandarin, who isn’t pleased that his identity was used as a public ruse to deceive Tony Stark. That was a rumor at the time. Now, we know for a fact that the One-Shot has a title.
The British Board of Film Classification today unveiled the full specs for the DVD release of Thor: The Dark World, and in that information, revealed that the title of the next One-Shot will be All Hail the King. I wish we knew what that meant, because it doesn’t immediately suggest a connection to the Mandarin. In fact, it seems to have more of a link to Loki (Tom Hiddleston), Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and the deception happening in Asgard at the end of Alan Taylor’s sequel. Could all of the talk about a Mandarin-based short film have been a red herring? With Marvel, anything is possible.
Here’s a rundown of the specific features on the Thor disc:
