Chris Carter's Secret Movie

Chris Carter, the wily devil behind The X-Files and the upcoming new X-Files movie, isn’t really working that hard on it. The movie hasn’t even been released yet, and apparently he’s already working on an entirely different project. Variety says he’s smack dab in the middle of directing a completely different film called Fencewalker, and been doing a damned good job of keeping the whole thing a secret. In fact, he’s so intent on keeping the movie under wraps, that even though Variety insists it’s really happening, neither he nor his people will admit the film’s existence.

I’ve heard of striking while the iron is hot, but Chris is striking before we’ve even seen the iron. It’s the first thing he’s ever done that’s not related to the X-Files though, so maybe this is a sign that after The X-Files: I Want to Believe finally hits theaters Chris is willing to be done with his Mulder/Scully search for freaky things franchise.

So what the heck is Fencewalker? It’s nothing like a normal Chris Carter project for starters. There’s no sign of the supernatural or creepy music. It’s a straight-up drama, a coming-of age character piece. It’s also described as “semi-autobiographical”, which perhaps explains some of the secrecy. Chris Carter is making a movie all about himself. I had no idea he was that interesting.

Other than that, we know nothing because Carter doesn’t want us to know. Presumably he’ll want us to know in time to buy tickets, unless he’s planning on saving this for limited engagements inside his attic.
