Mutant Chronicles Will Debut On TV Before Theaters

You probably already know it if you are planning to see The Mutant Chronicles, the upcoming LARPG adaptation. But, here is some neat info: it is going to be released on TV a month early! Magnet Releasing has bought the film and will premier it on their new television channel, a high def on-demand station called Ultra VOD. The film will premier on March 27th, 2009, one month before the April 24th 2009 theatrical release date.

In case you are unaware, The Mutant Chronicles is an upcoming film based on a live action role playing game. The game has spawned a video game, novels, comic books and collectables. Basically, it’s a little nerd nucleus. The film will star Thomas Jane, Ron Perlman, and John Malkovich. Check out the first seven minutes of Mutant Chronicles, here.

The new production company, Magnet just bought the film. According to a recent press release concerning the purchase, Magnet specializ[es] in films from the vanguard of horror, action, comedy and Asian cinema, such as Let the Right One in.” In other words, probably a lot of edgy, nerdy stuff will come out of this company, which is a branch of Magnolia Pictures.

It seems that everyone attached to Magnet is super excited about Chronicles. Eamonn Bowles, president of Magnolia Pictures, claims “Mutant Chronicles is a blast. It’s an action-packed thriller with a dynamite cast and very impressive production values. We’re thrilled to add it to Magnet’s slate of quality genre pictures.” One of the producers claims that Simon Hunter, the director of Chronicles, is an exciting cinematic talent who has created a provocative world for Mutant Chronicles. I see in Simon the rare visionary quality that was evident to me when working with Sam Raimi, Alex Proyas, and Brian De Palma on their early films. Mutant Chronicles is just the beginning for him.” But it might just be the end as well, if LARPers don’t respond to this adaptation of their precious property.
