Piranha 3DD Goes In To Production Today

Though Piranha 3D didn't do particularly well in theaters, it took no time at all for a sequel to be greenlit, Dimension Films waiting less than a week after the films release before giving the go-ahead. Titled Piranha 3DD and set to be released in November, we've heard a few story details already - the movie will be set at a waterpark - but there haven't been any on-set photos or any promotional materials released. Why? Because they are only starting production today.

Dimension has sent out a press release announcing that principal photography for Piranha 3DD is underway in Wilmington, North Carolina. Sitting in the director's chair this time around, replacing Alexandre Aja, is Feast director John Gulager. The cast includes Danielle Panabaker, Matt Bush, Chris Zylka, David Koechner, Meagan Tandy, Paul James Jordan, Jean-Luc Bilodeau, Hector Jimenez, Adrian Martinez, and Clu Gulager. The film is currently scheduled to be released on November 23, 2011.

That's going to be one mighty quick production if they want to be sure to meet the deadline on time. Unless the sequel plans on using really piranhas, there's a lot of CGI work to be done in post, and unless they want it to look horrible that's something they need to focus on.
