Into The Wild Escapes Onto DVD
You probably haven’t heard as much about Into the Wild in recent months as the filmmakers would like. Initially thought to be a strong Oscar contender, the movie fizzled out with very little notice from the Academy, and the small theater run of Into the Wild wound up being pretty much all the movie wound up getting.
The movie, headed to DVD on March 4th, tells the true story of Christopher McCandless, a privileged young man who abandons his stylish life in search of adventure, and winds up literally on the journey of a lifetime. The movie was adapted and directed by Sean Penn and stars Emile Hirsch, Vince Vaughn, Marcia Gay Harden, Catherine Keener, William Hurt, and earned Hal Holbrook an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor.
Into the Wild is getting quite the treatment, with a single disc, two-disc, and HD DVD release planned. Unfortunately press materials aren’t very detailed on what will be on those discs, beyond “Into the Wild: The Story, The Characters,” “Into the Wild: The Experience,” and the theatrical trailer. It’s rare to see a two-disc DVD released with so little on it, so either these will be formidable documentaries or there’s more substance than we’ve heard about.
Check out Into the Wild on single disc DVD, two-disc DVD, and HD DVD on March 4th.
