Spanish filmmaker Luis A. Berdejo has already experienced one of his movies making the way into American cinema, with this year’s adaptation of his film [Rec] (adapted and released here as Quarantine). Now Berdejo is bringing his skills to American filmmaking with an original picture - the first English language picture for the director.
The Hollywood Reporter announced Berdejo’s upcoming film, POD, a science-fiction thriller described as, “an intergalactic tale of discovery, love and adventure.” The movie will be produced by Gold Circle Films, who produced Berdejo’s latest picture, The New Daughter, which is currently in post-production.
Foreign filmmakers coming into American filmmaking have been a mixed bag. Sometimes what they bring isn’t nearly as interesting in translation as studios would hope (see The Messengers) while other times they wind up a huge success (see: Guillermo del Toro). Here’s hoping Berdejo winds up more in the category of the latter than the former.
