When Silent Hill first came out in 2006, it didn't exactly change the world. In addition to being largely dismissed by critics, the videogame adaptation made double its budget at the international box office, but here in the US it only managed to make $46 million (it was made for $50 million). In spite of this, a direct sequel was put into production last year and for a while simply sat on the shelf waiting to find a distributor. Today the movie has found what it's been looking for as well as a brand new release date.

THR is reporting that Open Road has signed on to distribute Silent Hill: Revelation 3D and has announced that they will be putting the title in theaters just in time for Halloween on October 26th. The date choice puts the movie up against the new thriller Alex Cross, starring Tyler Perry; Fun Size, a Halloween-themed comedy; and the surfing flick Of Men and Mavericks. While it may seem weird that no other horror films are being released that weekend, the reason is clear if you look at what movie will be coming out the week before: Paranormal Activity 4. What gives the Silent Hill sequel a chance is that the found-footage series has a history of steep drops in the second week of release, the last two movies going down 59.4% and 65.5%, respectively.

Silent Hill: Revelation 3D is written and directed by Michael J. Bassett and stars Adelaide Clemens, Sean Bean, Carrie-Anne Moss, Deborah Kara Unger, Radha Mitchell and Kit Harington.
