Yesterday we brought you the artwork for the upcoming direct to DVD Babylon 5 – The Lost Tales release. Among the listed extras we mentioned a set of producer’s diaries that would follow show creator and Lost Tales writer/director/producer J. Michael Straczynski around the making of the new anthology tales. Little did we know some of these have already made an appearance online.
Reader Shabaz send in links to the three featurettes that have shown up in different locations so far. For those who can’t wait for the DVD, take a look (although I bet these look a lot better on the DVD then through these various video sites):
The Reunion is a three minute look at the return of Bruce Boxlightner, Tracy Scoggins, and Peter Woodward to the world of B5. The conversation is dominated by Boxlightner, who seems almost too overwhelmed to select words – it is well known Bruce thought the original series could (and should) have carried on beyond JMS’s original 5 year vision, which he tries to justify a little with his comments here. Interesting item of note: Scoggins’ character is no longer a Captain – she’s been promoted to Colonel.
The Aftermath runs under three minutes and looks at the production after wrapping. JMS talks about how well their brief ten day filming plan worked and emphasizes how much pressure is on post production in a project like this.
Babylon 5 Visual FX is the longest of the three, running over six minutes. It’s a pretty dry look at the special effects offices and the shots that were being worked on during this visit to the VFX offices. While a lot of the SFX mumbo jumbo is pretty bland, there are a couple of hints at things to come: a fiery cathedral, a battle scene dream sequence, and space ponies. That last one is a joke… at least I think it is.
