Richard Linklater's next movie A Scanner Darkly has more than a few people excited. But they'll all have to stay excited awhile longer. The movie's not being released any time soon.

Originally slated for a March 2006 release, A Scanner Darkly has been shifted instead to July 7, 2006. Often when studios shift release dates it's because they're not confident in the film, or they feel it needs more work. But in this case, Scanner is being moved from a fairly weak release date in March right into the thick of the big box office Summer competition in July. That can only mean one thing… someone thinks this movie's pretty damn good.
