The Great Buck Howard Finds A Distributor

It’s been a while since we’ve heard about The Great Buck Howard. The star-studded film (featuring everyone from Tom Hanks to George Takei) was viewed at Sundance (read our coverage here) but left the festival without a buyer – a rather surprising fate for a movie with so much star power involved.

That problem appears to have been fixed. Hollywood Reporter announced that Magnolia Pictures has picked up the North American distribution rights to Buck Howard with plans for a fall release. How large a release that may be is currently unknown, however, as the studio is debating a limited or wide release strategy.

The movie stars Colin Hanks as a law student who becomes a road manager for a Las Vegas magician played by John Malkovich. This jump in careers doesn’t go over too well with his father, appropriately played by the actor’s father, Tom Hanks.
