Terry Pratchett's Hogfather Gets Adapted

Someone explain to me how Middle Earth and Narnia can be represented so well on the big screen, and all Discworld gets is a DVD release? That appears to be the case with Terry Pratchett’s Hogfather, an adaptation of one of the numerous Pratchett novels set in the author’s created universe that ran as a miniseries overseas and is now making its way to the U.S. in DVD form.

If you don’t know Discworld, this basic description gives you an idea of the creativity and bizarre nature of the place: Discworld is a parallel universe that drifts through space, perched on top of four elephants who stand on the shell of a giant turtle. This specific story, Hogfather, takes place on the alternate universe’s version of Christmas, called Hogswatch, when the Hogfather delivers gifts to children. Unfortunately the Hogfather has been targeted by Discworld’s serious auditors to be eliminated, thereby removing some of the foolishness of humanity from Discworld.

The movie has quite a cast, including David Jason (Only Fools and Horses), Marc Warren (Hu$tle), Michelle Dockery (Fingersmith), Nigel Planer (Flood), Tony Robinson (Mrs. Caldicot's Cabbage War), Peter Guiness (The Conclave), Stephen Marcus (Kinky Boots), David Warner (The Omen), Joss Ackland (Asylum), and the voice of Ian Richardson (Becoming Jane), and is written and directed by Vasim Jean.

The DVD, which includes the movie and an exclusive interview with author Terry Pratchett, comes to DVD March 4th.
