The Dark Knight Rises Already Selling Midnight IMAX Tickets Online

Usually when tickets for a huge movie go onsale at online outlets like Fandango, we get a splashy press release from the company or the studio itself, trying to rally the troops to boost those ticket sale numbers months before the movie even opens. Hell, it happened just two days ago, when we got a press release telling us the exact date Hunger Games tickets will go on sale in February. And yet you can now buy tickets for the year's most anticipated movie, and no one made any fanfare about it. As explained by THR, Fandango is now selling tickets for the IMAX midnight screenings of The Dark Knight Rises-- and if you live in New York, you're out of luck, because it's already sold out.

You can go here to see for yourself, though so far the tickets only seem to be available in major cities like San Francisco and Los Angeles. Other tickets aren't yet onsale-- and though we will probably get the expected splashy press release when it happens, you might want to keep an eye on the Fandango site anyway. This sneaky early-bird offering seems to validate Warner Bros. decision to put the six-minute IMAX prologue of The Dark Knight Rises in front of Mission: Impossible -- Ghost Protocol, and also emphasize their commitment to helping people see the movie on the biggest screen possible. Some fans who attended early screenings of the prologue only-- remember that?-- were given the chance to buy their IMAX tickets early, and of course, many did. Would these tickets already be sold out if fans hadn't gotten a taste of what it looks like on the giant IMAX screen? OK, they probably would-- but the preview had to have helped a little.

The Dark Knight Rises opens on Friday, July 20-- or July 19 at midnight, if you're one of the lucky few who already has a ticket.
